Sushi-Ya in SM Megamall

In our first foray to SM Megamall since transferring to Ortigas, we chanced upon a Japanese restaurant in the lower ground floor of Building B. The place has a distinct Nippon ambiance but there was noticeable wear and tear in their furniture. Nevertheless, our family settled in to eat as it was past 12nn and we were hungry + tired from appliances shopping. Later on I read that Sushi-Ya has been around for nearly 20 years. The restaurant was established way back in 1996. Amazing it lasted this long!

Sushi-Ya menu

Sushi-Ya's menu is quite extensive (that's just the main course menu above; click to enlarge). And to save time from making up our minds what to order, we decided to have the Bento Set for 2. The basic set includes rice, miso soup, Kakiage (veggie tempura), 4pcs Agedashi Tofu, Kani salad, and 8pcs Maki (4pcs California and 4pcs Kappa). The basic set price is P250 and then you add the price of your chosen main course. We chose Gyuniku (beef tenderloin with steak sauce and bean sprouts) for our main; its price is P230. Thus our total bill amounted to less than P500. Below is our whole Bento Set for 2 (sans rice and soup). So, what is worth it? Read on! :)

You bet it was worth it! The Gyuniku beef was garlicky and oh-so flavourful that 1 cup of rice per person wasn't enough, LOL! Thankfully we had 8pcs of Maki for additional rice source :p The Agedashi Tofu were huge cubes of silky smooth tofu and (once again) very flavourful! The Kani salad was oh-so yummy with real sinful Japanese mayo, and the Kakiage was crunchy enough to entice the kids to eat veggies unknowingly. Hehe! Check out our yummy foods below. All photos are unedited btw :)

this post is not a review, boohoo!

I know I promised last week that I'll have a review post (food, glorious food post!) up within that week and I wasn't able to. I don't wanna give excuses but my parents were here! Gotta spend quality time with them instead of parking myself in front the laptop and typing the time away ;-) They went home today so I'm back in business! Hopefully I can get a post up this week, 2-3 posts even. Hey, you gotta aim high right?! Heehee! Here's a teaser photo, a clue of what's my first Ortigas review post is all about:

WELCOME! ^__^

Hello readers! It's been 45 days since we started to live here in Ortigas Center (map below) in Mandaluyong City. And as such, we have pretty much scoured the area for restaurants, shops, hotels, malls and other places where my family can hang out :) I'm currently cleaning up the blog's design, but rest assured, reviews will be up this week. If the kids will give me some free time that is! ;-)
